Blessing in Disguise

John 16:21
“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgers the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.”

The world likes to have its own view of pregnancy, specifically teen pregnancy, but God knows that every child is a blessing. The story of Hagar is a perfect example of this. She was unwanted and had been rejected from society because she was carrying a married man’s child. She had been abused by her mistress Sarai. Genesis 16:6 says, “Abram replied to Sarai, ‘here, your slave is in your hands; do whatever you want with her.’ Then Sarai mistreated her so much that she ran away from her.” Hagar had nowhere to turn. She was pregnant and alone, but God had made plans for her that was going to change the direction of her life forever. The Lord promised her that he would multiply her descendants, and there would too many to count. Genesis 16:9 says. “Then the angel of the Lord told her, ‘Go back to your mistress and submit to her.’ The angel added, ‘I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count”. God was with Hagar when she felt lost and alone. In her moment of complete and utter darkness, he shone a light in her life and promised her a family.

God is with us in every season, especially the ones where we feel completely defeated and have nowhere to turn. He is always there with open arms waiting for us, ready to change our lives for the better. He used this baby that Hagar unexpectedly had to create generations and generations for her family legacy to live on. That sounds more like a blessing to Hagar than a mistake.

Every baby brought into this world is a blessing from God. It may not always be in the most convenient situations, but life isn’t meant to be convenient. Life is meant to be full of unexpected twists, turns, and surprises!
